Langebaan Athletics Club’s half marathon returns on Saturday 22 August

Participants are gearing up for the third Langebaan Athletics Club (LAC) half marathon on Saturday 22 August, with the race starting and finishing at the Langebaan Town Hall.

For LAC, the return of the race represents community pride and resilience, and it serves as a homecoming for runners who have made the event part of their local running landscape.

Race Director Christopher Rodgers said the event has become an important showcase for both Langebaan and the wider West Coast.

“For LAC annual half marathon also showcases Langebaan’s natural beauty and proves that a volunteer-led organisation such as LAC can still create a flagship event that ripples through the community,” said Rodgers.

With race day now just around the corner, entries are moving quickly, with only a limited number still available for the 10 km and 21 km events. These entries are strictly online and will close as soon as the respective entry targets are reached.

Runners looking to take part in the 5 km event will have another opportunity, with entries available at the Langebaan Town Hall on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.

But while the medals and finish-line celebrations will provide the visible highlights, Rodgers said the impact of the event will stretch well beyond race day.

“The half marathon is expected to provide a welcome boost to local businesses, bringing runners, supporters and visitors into the town while showcasing the scenery and hospitality of the West Coast to potential future visitors. The event also has an important role to play in developing local sport.”

He added that the event’s true legacy is a more connected, healthier, and prouder athletic community stretching from the lagoon shores to the furthest corner of the Swartland.

With entries filling fast, the message from organisers is simple: Those wanting to be part of the third Langebaan Half Marathon should get their entries in before the remaining places disappear.

Rodgers thanks all the sponsors and BYD Vredenburg who will be sponsoring the lead car for the marathon,
