Participants are gearing up for the third Langebaan Athletics Club (LAC) Half Marathon on Saturday 22 August, which starts and finishes at the Langebaan Town Hall.

For LAC the race represents community pride and resilience, while welcoming runners who have made the event part of the local running calendar.

Race director Christopher Rodgers said the event had become an important showcase for Langebaan and the wider West Coast. “The LAC annual half-marathon also showcases Langebaan’s natural beauty and proves that a volunteer-led organisation such as the LAC can still create a flagship event that ripples through the community.”

Runners will take part in the 10 km and 21 km races, while entries for the 5 km event will be available at the Langebaan Town Hall on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.

Rodgers said the event’s impact will extend beyond race day, with runners, supporters and visitors expected to give local businesses a boost while experiencing the town’s scenery and hospitality.

“The half marathon is expected to provide a welcome boost to local businesses, bringing runners, supporters and visitors into the town while showcasing the scenery and hospitality of the West Coast to potential future visitors.

“The event also has an important role to play in developing local sport.”

He said the event’s lasting legacy would be a more connected, healthier and prouder athletic community.

Rodgers thanked all the sponsors, including BYD Vredenburg, which will provide the lead vehicle for the race.
