In July 2025, Laura Franzman-Botha, content creator, pageant judge, wife, mother and proud resident of the West Coast, received a message from the Miss/Mrs Independent International Pageant inviting her to represent South Africa op their international stage.

Her first instinct was scepticism. She researched the pageant, reached out to former South African competitor Penelope Zama Mongalo, prayed about the opportunity and eventually felt a quiet sense of confirmation. With her husband’s support and growing confidence, she said yes.

In April 2026, she travelled to Bangkok, Thailand, where she competed alongside women from around the world.

She was crowned Mrs Elite Independent International 2026, as well as winner of her age division in the Miss Independent International Pageant.

Franzman-Botha described long competition days, unfamiliar food and a demanding schedule affected by international travel disruptions, but also meaningful sisterhood formed between contestants.

She said she does not need a crown to know her worth. She entered because she believes dreams do not have an expiry date, regardless of age or background. She hopes to inspire women over 40 and young girls from small towns.

She adds that while the crown is beautiful, the message is bigger: dreams are valid, no matter when they begin or where you come from.
