The open field alongside the R45 as you enter Vredenburg is seen as a eyesore for many.
With litter spreading across the field and even latching on to the fencing residents feel something drastic needs to be done.
One resident said the current state is worrisome and creates a bad image for Vredenburg, especially to visitors entering the town. According to Ethne Lawrence, spokesperson of Saldanha Bay Municipality (SBM), the SBM Solid Waste Department, in collaboration with the Community and Operational Services Directorate, is consistently working to maintain cleanliness in the open area alongside Main Road R45. “However, the strong winds currently affecting the area pose significant challenges. Ongoing efforts to raise community awareness are being carried out within the George Kerridge ward to encourage residents to utilise the available waste management infrastructure services and to prevent illegal waste disposal and littering.”
She added that this will be monitored closely and daily cleaning operations will continue as planned.
