Lacing up his running shoes and running for a worthy cause, Charl Lingenfelder (34) will be running in aid of Care St Helena Bay, an organisation that works to improve the lives of vulnerable animals in their community.

Lingenfelder, who lives in Somerset West, will be participating in the 21 km OUTsurance Gun Run on Saturday, 13 September, with a mission to raise R5000 for Care St Helena Bay.
“Growing up with cats and dogs in our family home, I’ve loved animals for as long as I can remember. Every year, I try to commit to helping at least one animal sanctuary, whether financially, through donations, or volunteering on their premises. “My dearest mom, Roma Buys, from whom my love for animals hails, drew my attention to Care St Helena.”
Buys has lived on the West Coast for the best part of 15 years, and she is aware of the excellent work that Care does in its community. “My friends have helped animal sanctuaries before by running for them to raise money, and this year I decided to do it for them too.”
According to Margie van Rooyen from Care St. Helena Bay, Lingenfelder’s decision to run the 21 km OUTsurance Gun Run in support of Care is more than just a personal milestone, “it’s a national focus on a local lifeline for the animals of our lower-income communities.
His ace gives us something we rarely have, which is national exposure. And with it, the chance to build long-term partnerships that can transform our reach and resilience.
This campaign introduces Care to a wider audience – potential sponsors, donors, and partners who may never have heard of us. It’s not just about one event – it’s about the doors that open.”
With Lingenfelder’s support, Van Rooyen said they can acquire a second rescue vehicle to reduce delays and expand their reach, cover veterinary bills for injured and sick animals, grow their sterilisation program to break the cycle of suffering, and more.
Whether it is through donations, blankets, or food, and you would like to donate, contact Buys on 079 514 1634.
