SASOLBURG – Two men aged 32 and 37 are expected to appear in the Sasolburg Magistrate’s Court today after they were arrested in connection with the alleged robbery of a woman at knifepoint.
The incident happened on Friday 2 October at about 14:30 while the woman was walking through the greenbelt near Piet Retief Street in Sasolburg.
According to police, the woman noticed two men, one walking ahead of her and another behind her. The man in front allegedly turned around, pulled out a knife and pointed it at her.
She screamed for help, prompting the second man to approach her and allegedly grab her handbag. The two suspects then fled from the scene.
The woman walked to the main road, where she came across traffic officers and asked them to help her contact the police. Police were subsequently provided with information about the identities and whereabouts of the suspects. Officers went to the identified address, where both men were found.
A search allegedly led to the recovery of the woman’s stolen belongings in the suspects’ possession.
Among the items recovered were a beige-and-pink handbag, a Samsung A4 cellphone and a purse containing several cards. Police spokesperson Sgt. Josephine Rani confirmed the arrests.
The two suspects are facing charges of robbery with a weapon other than a firearm.
