The Ficksburg police have urgently requested the public’s help in two possible murder cases that occurred in Ficksburg last week.

On Thursday, 30 November, the decomposed body of an unknown male person was found floating in a small dam near the Ficksburg Golf Club.

The police received information from the community that there was a suspicious white plastic bag floating in the water, near the aforementioned golf club. It was suspected that the bag contained what appeared to be a human body.

The police arrived at the scene and, upon opening the plastic bag, found the body of a male person inside.

The deceased is estimated to be between 15 and 25 years old. He is still unknown.

A case of murder is being investigated.

The deceased was wearing a green T-shirt, a blue pair of jeans, and a pair of white tekkies. There was also a sandstone brick inside the plastic bag.

  • In an unrelated matter, the body of a women in her 30’s was found at an open field near Ficksburg Correctional Services with stab wounds on Saturday, 2 December. There is still no suspect at this stage.

On Friday, 1 December, at about 20:40 officials of Ficksburg Correctional Services summoned the police to Veldt Street, after having discovered a woman who had been stabbed to death at the corner of their facility.

One of the officials confirmed that he had heard screaming, and as he went outside he saw a woman lying in the street, still alive. He immediately called emergency services, but she was declared dead on their arrival at the scene.

The deceased was wearing a red dress and black cap. Her identity is known, but she cannot be identified before her body, relevant age, and place of residence can be confirmed by her next of kin.

  • The police are asking anyone with information regarding these two cases to contact the nearest police station or the investigating team on 079-897-7144.

WO Mmako Mophiring, police spokesperson for the Thabo Mofutsanyana district, says that the police are warning people to be alert and behave attentively during the coming festive season.

“In December robberies, burglaries, domestic violence, drug abuse and murders usually increase.”

The public, men and women alike, are also warned to not walk alone at night – in known or unknown areas. If they have to walk, they are advised to do so in groups rather than alone.

The police request that family and friends be kept informed of a person’s whereabouts, especially with people attending events or parties at night.
