The Democratic Alliance will lay criminal charges against several Free State municipal managers this week over alleged failures in financial management and governance.
The DA will target municipal managers at four local municipalities as part of what it describes as a campaign to hold municipal officials accountable for the management of public funds and resources.
Charges will be laid against Masilonyana municipal manager Mojalefa Matlole, Nketoana municipal manager Mokete Solomon Nhlapo and Mohokare municipal manager MS Mohale.
At Maluti-a-Phofung Local Municipality, the party intends laying charges against Adv MM Mofokeng and Dr FP Mothamaha.
DA parliamentary leader George Michalakis will lead the charge-laying action, which will take place at police stations in different parts of the province on Monday 31 August and Tuesday 1 September.
The party alleges that the municipal managers have failed to fulfil their responsibilities and uphold proper financial management at their respective municipalities.
According to the DA, the action is part of an effort to address alleged financial mismanagement, governance failures and the improper use of public resources at municipalities.
The charges will be laid at Theunissen Police Station on Monday morning, followed by Reitz Police Station in the afternoon.
The DA delegation will then travel to Phuthaditjhaba Police Station later on Monday, while further charges will be laid at Zastron Police Station on Tuesday.
The party said the action is intended to ensure that municipal officials are held accountable where there are alleged failures in the management and administration of municipalities.
The allegations have not been tested in court.
