Award-winning police officer inspires women to trust their capabilities

In commemoration of Women's Month, VrystaatKroon Newspaper highlighted inspiring women to share their stories, featuring Sergeant Malankhutla Josephine Rani, a 39-year-old spokesperson from the SAPS who shared her remarkable journey with us.

In celebration of Women’s Month, VrystaatKroon Newspaper embarked on a meaningful journey to capture inspiring stories from remarkable women across various sectors of society, seeking empowering messages that resonate with strength and determination.

VrystaatKroon spoke to Sergeant Malankhutla Josephine Rani, a 39-year-old South African Police Service (SAPS) spokesperson in the Northern Free State. Born in Mokopane, Limpopo, and raised in Zamdela, Sasolburg, Sgt. Rani’s journey is a testament to perseverance and professional excellence.

After completing her matric at Afrikaanse Hoërskool Sasolburg, she pursued a National Diploma in Sports Management from Vaal University of Technology and is currently advancing her knowledge through a Bachelor of Policing Practices. With 16 dedicated years of service since joining the police 2009 and training at the Graaff-Reinet Training Academy, Rani has distinguished herself as a communication professional.

Her current role at the Fezile Dabi District Corporate Communication and Liaison spans 21 police stations – a responsibility she executes with remarkable skill and passion. Her recent recognition as the Best Performing District Communication Member of the Year at the Free State Communication Forum in Welkom underscores her exceptional commitment.

As a Communication Official, she serves as a crucial bridge between law enforcement and the community, effectively sharing policing successes, coordinating awareness campaigns, and maintaining police’s corporate image.

For Women’s Month, Rani shares a powerful message with young women both within and outside the police: “Never underestimate your inherent strengths, maintain a humble attitude of continuous learning from experienced mentors, consistently pursue excellence, and place unwavering trust in your capabilities and spiritual beliefs.”

She hopes that her message will empower women with resilience and the transformative power of dedicated professional service, inspiring women to break barriers and create meaningful impact in their chosen paths.
