WELKOM – Welkom is celebrating the success of two young girls who have brought national recognition to the Free State after outstanding performances at prestigious modelling and pageant competitions in Pretoria.
The twelve-year-old Lesedi Kimberly Morolong and seven-year-old Seraphim Nthoana may be separated by five years in age, but they share a common story of determination, confidence and the courage to pursue their dreams.
Lesedi, a Gr. 6 learner at the St Dominic’s College in Welkom and a resident of Thabong, enjoyed an unforgettable weekend after being crowned both Miss Mini Teen South Africa and Face of South Africa Junior at the national finals held at the Hatfield Arena in Pretoria.
Competing against some of the country’s top young contestants, she impressed judges with her confidence, eloquence, grace and stage presence after months of intensive preparation that included public speaking, runway presentation, leadership training, and personal development.
For Lesedi, the two national titles represent far more than beauty pageants.
She entered pageantry at a young age to overcome shyness and build self-confidence, and says the experience has transformed her into a more confident and determined young person.
“I was over the moon when my name was called,” she said.
“It still feels like a dream.”
Despite her success, Lesedi remains humble and hopes her journey will encourage other children to believe in themselves.
“Believe in yourself, work hard and never give up,” is the message she wants to share with young people across South Africa.
Her double national victory now opens opportunities to serve as a youth ambassador, participate in community outreach initiatives and represent South Africa on various modelling and youth development platforms.

Another young Free State star making headlines is Seraphim, a Gr. 2 learner at the Edmund Rice School.
Although she only began modelling at the age of six, Seraphim has already built an impressive list of achievements.
Her journey began in 2025 when she won the title of Miss Tiny Face of Matjhabeng at the Mr and Miss Face of Matjhabeng pageant.
She recently represented the Free State at the Miss and Mr Junior South Africa competition, held in Pretoria from 1 to 4 July, where contestants from across the country competed for national honours.
Her confidence, poise and natural stage presence earned her three prestigious titles: Miss Petite Universal South Africa, Miss Petite South Africa Free State, and the Most Photogenic Award.
Despite balancing school with a growing modelling career, Seraphim continues to excel and has become an inspiration to other young children who dream of stepping onto the stage.
