The Lejweleputswa District Municipality Disaster Management team is providing emergency support to residents affected by flooding in Thandanani, Thabong.

The flooding began at the water source before flowing into the Thandanani informal settlement, displacing several families and damaging homes and belongings.

Affected families have been relocated to the Kopanong Indoor Sports Centre for shelter. Gift of the Givers and the South African Red Cross Society are providing daily meals and essential supplies, with additional support from non-governmental organisations (NGOs), non-profit organisations (NPOs) and civil society organisations.

The municipality has appealed to local businesses, community members and organisations to donate non-perishable food items, bottled water, blankets, warm clothing, toiletries and sanitary products. Volunteers are also needed at the centre.
