THABONG – Four suspects were arrested in separate incidents in Thabong over the weekend as Welkom Public Order Police (POP) continued operations targeting illegal activities in identified crime hotspots across the Lejweleputswa District.
The arrests followed crime-combating and patrol operations conducted by Platoon 3 members on Saturday and Sunday, 12 and 13 September.
On Saturday at about 12:30, POP members received information while conducting crime-combating duties which led them to a house in Chalale Street, Thabong.
At the premises, police were directed to a 30-year-old woman who was allegedly involved in drug dealing.
She was found in possession of 23 medium-sized and 12 small zip-lock bags containing substances suspected to be CAT, as well as an undisclosed amount of money.
The woman was arrested for possession of substances suspected to be drugs.
The following day, while conducting patrols in Thabong, police noticed a suspicious-looking man and requested permission to search him.
The search resulted in the discovery of two live rounds of ammunition in his pocket. The 29-year-old man was unable to provide a reasonable explanation for his possession of the ammunition and was arrested for possession of unlicensed ammunition.
In a separate incident on the same day, a 37-year-old man was arrested after police allegedly found him in possession of substances suspected to be CAT and crystal methamphetamine.
Police subsequently followed up on additional information which led them to another house in Thabong.
Permission was requested and granted to search a 49-year-old woman at the premises. During the search, officers allegedly found a transparent bag containing 20 rocks presumed to be CAT, while money was also found in her possession.
She was arrested for possession of substances suspected to be drugs.
The seized items were booked into evidence and will form part of the ongoing investigations.
Police have urged community members to continue providing information about suspected criminal activities to assist law enforcement agencies in disrupting crime in hotspot areas.
