Tree planting boosts biodiversity at Olienhout Park in Plattekloof

The public were invited to attend a special tree-planting event at Olienhout Park, located next to the Plattekloof Duck Pond in Plattekloof recently.

During the event, the City of Cape Town’s parks and recreation department planted 12 Trees of the Year, wild olive trees (Olea africana). These indigenous trees will, over time, provide shade, support biodiversity and enhance the natural environment of the park, says Cheryl Visser, Ward 1 councillor.

The event took place on Friday 26 June at the Frikkie Knoetze Arboretum at the park. It was attended by community members, stakeholders, along with Visser, Elmarie Linde, Member of Parliament and Helga Easom, chair of the Plattekloof, Welgelegen, Panorama and Kleinbosch (PWP) Ratepayers Association.
