The Western Cape police have confiscated more than 27 000 mandrax tablets during a raid conducted in Parow, Cape Town.

The discovery of the drugs was made as part of the police’s Operation Lockdown.

Provincial police spokesperson, Thembakazi Mpendukana, says one suspect (39) has been arrested in connection with the drugs and will appear in the Parow Magistrate’s Court once he has been charged.

The discovery earlier this morning (Wednesday 9 September) around 01:30 at a house in Da Gama Street, comes as police acted on intelligence received, Mpendukana says.

The police conducted a thorough search which led to 27 279 mandrax tablets being discovered, says Mpendukana. “After this lengthy pursuit, a Zimbabwean man was apprehended for possession of drugs and detained at Parow Police Station.”

More drugs confiscated

Earlier this week the police also arrested a 28-year-old man for the possession of drugs. The suspect was apprehended on Tuesday 8 September around 23:30 during a stop-and-search operation in Cook Street, Goodwood.

Mpendukana says the 18 and a half mandrax tablets were found in his pockets and that he will appear in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court once he too has been charged.
