The Parow Community Policing Forum (CPF) commended and thanked the police and community members, whose information and cooperation, contributed to the successful removal of drugs off the area’s streets.

The police confiscated more than 27 000 Mandrax tablets during a raid at a house in Da Gama Street, Parow on Wednesday (9 September). The discovery and confiscation of the drugs forms part of the police’s Operation Lockdown.

Western Cape police spokesperson, Thembakazi Mpendukana, said the discovery comes as police acted on intelligence received.

“This is a powerful example of what can be achieved when law enforcement and the community work together towards a common goal, creating safer communities and addressing criminal activity.

“The Parow community has made it clear that we will not simply accept illegal activities taking place within our neighbourhoods. Through responsible reporting, information sharing, community participation and continued cooperation with the police and other relevant enforcement agencies, we can collectively make a meaningful difference,” says CPF chair Bronwin Daniels.

The police conducted a thorough search which led to 27 279 Mandrax tablets being discovered. One suspect (39), a Zimbabwean national, has been arrested in connection with the drugs. He is charged with the possession of drugs and appeared in the Parow Magistrate’s Court.

Daniels says crime prevention is a shared responsibility. “When communities stand together with the police and enforcement agencies, we strengthen our ability to identify and address criminal activity and reclaim our neighbourhoods.”

She says the CPF remains committed to supporting constructive partnerships between the community, police and relevant stakeholders in the ongoing fight against crime. “We thank the members who continue to put in the work, and we encourage our community to remain vigilant, report criminal activity through the appropriate channels and continue standing together. Together, we can take back our communities,” Daniels says.

Earlier last week the police also arrested a 28-year-old man for the possession of drugs. The suspect was apprehended on Tuesday 8 September during a stop-and-search operation in Cook Street, Goodwood.

The police say 18 and a half Mandrax tablets were found in his pockets. The suspect appeared in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court.
