Thanks to a tip-off by a member of the public, a large quantity of drugs was recently taken off the streets in Parow, Cape Town.
The police managed to confiscate drugs in two separate incidents last week.
Warrant Officer Yolanda Pietersen, police spokesperson, shared details about the two cases.
In the first incident, the police were informed of a male suspect who was selling drugs from a vehicle in Voortrekker Road, Parow. The information was followed up and the vehicle was located, with the driver inside it. The members introduced themselves, and informed the suspect of the information they had received, which he understood. Permission to search the vehicle was granted, the police say. While searching the car, the police found a pouch which was opened. Inside they discovered Mandrax, tik and cocaine, the police say.
The suspect was arrested.
A total of 103 whole Mandrax tablets, 23 small plastic bags (bankies) containing cocaine, and 13 bankies containing tik were discovered.
The police also visited a house in Klipkop, Parow the same day where they came across more drugs.
The police found 7 941 whole Mandrax tablets, five bankies containing tik and crushed Mandrax, six bags containing uncut and cut tik, and two bags containing cocaine inside a room at the house in Charel Uys Street. The room was being rented by a male suspect who had already been taken into custody for a similar charge.
The successful confiscation of drugs was made possible through a collaboration between the police’s crime prevention unit, and the shift personnel on duty who acted on the information received from a member of public.
The drugs were confiscated on Wednesday 8 April.
