Law-enforcement visibility operation in Parow CBD proves a success

A joint-visibility operation held in Parow this week led to the issuing of more than R50 000 worth of fines.

Conducted in the Parow central business district and along Voortrekker Road, it involved the Voortrekker Road Corridor Improvement District (VRCID), ADT, Parow police and the local community policing forum, the police’s Community in Blue initiative and the City of Cape Town’s Law Enforcement and Metro Police.

The operation focused on increasing visibility, preventing crime and addressing identified problem areas, the VRCID said.

It began with a foot patrol through the Parow Station Arcade, a known hot spot for criminal activity, where several stop-and-searches were conducted and suspicious activity addressed. The teams then moved to Voortrekker Road, where a vehicle check point was conducted following recent smash-and-grabs incidents. The VRCID said vehicles were stopped and searched while drivers’ licences and vehicle documentation were also checked.

The operation led to the issuing of R54 800 in fines.

The VRCID said a strong visible presence sends an important message, that safety and law-enforcement partners are active, working together and committed to addressing crime and problem areas within the Parow precinct.
