Airports Company South Africa (ACSA) has assured travellers and the public that the safety and security of everyone at Cape Town International Airport remains a priority.
This follows an incident yesterday when a woman was hijacked in the parking lot of the airport.

“We are aware of the hijacking incident that took place in the vicinity of Cape Town International Airport. Our security teams responded immediately and worked closely with the police, who have since apprehended the suspects. We understand that an incident like this can be unsettling, and we want to reassure travellers and the public that the safety and security of everyone at our airport remains a priority,” the statement reads.
They thanked the police and their own security team for bringing the situation under control.
Constable Ndakhe Gwala, police spokesperson, confirmed the incident and said officers from the Flying Squad arrested four male suspects between the ages of 16 and 27 following the hijacking.
“The team responded to reports of a hijacking at about 17:15. They rapidly intercepted the white VW Polo in Bonteheuwel and arrested the four occupants for hijacking and possession of a stolen vehicle. Once charged, the suspects will appear before the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court,” said Gwala.
‘Stupidest’
Angus McKenzie, ward councillor for Bonteheuwel, was at the scene of the arrests and described the suspects as “Bonteheuwel’s stupidest” criminals.
“You honestly couldn’t make this stuff up. The suspects apparently took the victim’s cellphone too, but instead of getting rid of it like you would expect from someone trying to avoid being caught, they started playing with the camera. Big mistake! That cellphone became their digital breadcrumb trail, helping police track them down — right here in Bonteheuwel. And just like that, arrested!” joked McKenzie.
“Honestly, if there was an award for ‘criminals who make the police’s job easier’, these guys would be strong contenders. Crime doesn’t pay and apparently, neither does knowing how to use a cellphone. Well done to the Flying Squad for getting on it quickly and getting these suspects into custody.”
