Kraaifontein remains among South Africa’s highest crime policing precincts, according to latest crime statistics released by the police ministry last Friday.
Kraaifontein recorded 1 491 community-reported serious crimes between April and June, an increase of 0,9% from the 1 477 cases recorded during the same period last year.
The figure placed Kraaifontein 13th nationally among police stations with the highest number of community-reported serious crimes.
The station also ranked eighth nationally for contact crime, recording 769 cases. This was a marginal decrease of 0,5% from the 773 cases recorded in the corresponding period in 2025.
Murder remained a concern, with 43 cases recorded during the period, up from 42 last year. Sexual offences held steady at 43. Robberies rose, with 56 common robberies and 241 aggravated robberies recorded. Assault cases totalled 220, with a further 131 dockets opened for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Kraaifontein ranked 11th nationally among the country’s top 30 stations for murder, and 29th for attempted murder. The station also ranked 14th nationally for rape and 13th for both home burglaries and home robberies.
Home burglaries
In contrast, Kraaifontein does not appear on the national top 30 for crimes detected as a result of police action. During the three-month period, the station recorded 59 cases of driving under the influence, 500 drug-related crimes, and 15 for possession of unlicensed firearms.
Fifteen cars were hijacked during the period, along with 16 residential robberies and six business robberies. Property crime also showed concerning levels, with 95 home burglaries reported, a figure that has raised alarm alongside seven business burglaries.

Kraaifontein Community Police Forum chair Mawethu Sila expressed deep condolences to the families who have lost loved ones to the senseless violent crime that continues to plague Kraaifontein.
“We will do as much as we can to help,” he said.
Sila also had a direct message for those behind the violence, urging them to step away from crime and work with the community to rebuild their lives.
