Mitchells Plain police have arrested four men for murder after the body of a man was found near a primary school in Wespoort Drive, Portlands. The body was discovered on Monday 24 August at about 08:30.

According to police spokesperson Const. Ndakhe Gwala, officers who responded to a complaint found an adult man with multiple stab wounds to his back and a knife lodged in the right side of his neck.

Medical staff declared him dead at the scene.

Gwala said: “The motive for the attack is yet to be determined and the investigation is ongoing.”

Five suspects arrested

Later that day, police arrested four men aged 20, 27, 30 and 38 in connection with the murder, Gwala said. A fifth suspect, a 37-year-old man, was arrested for defeating the ends of justice, Gwala added.

Once charged,  the five are expected to appear in the Mitchells Plain Magistrates’ Court, she said.
