A 35-year-old man was shot and killed in Kilimanjaro Street, Tafelsig, on Monday morning at about 06:28.

Police spokesperson Sgt Wesley Twigg confirmed that Mitchells Plain police opened a murder case after the shooting. When police arrived at the scene, they found the man with gunshot wounds to his body. Medical personnel declared him dead at the scene, he said.

The circumstances around the shooting are still under investigation and no arrests have been made yet.

Not dumped outside school

Unverified reports on crime watch chat groups say that the body was found outside a school in the early hours of the morning, but there are no schools in Kilimanjaro street. Neighbourhood watch members confirmed that the body was found by a resident and that the victim appeared to have been shot dead.
