Taare, a Cape Town-based Indian dance performance troupe, will bring their newest dance production, The Bollywood Times, to Artscape on Saturday 2 May as part of the Suidoosterfees.
Founded by artistic director Ahneesh Valodia in 2012, Taare was established to create a platform for both emerging and experienced dancers to contribute their skills to the enrichment of the greater community.
Taare has built a reputation for vibrant storytelling through the promotion of the Indian performing arts, blending theatrical concepts with the colour and energy of Bollywood music and dance.
Imaginative productions
Over the years, the company has staged imaginative productions such as The Taare Express, When Dancers Unite, Kismet, Anjali in Wonderland, and The Bollywood Bazaar, each exploring unique themes through dance, cross-cultural collaborative work, and theatrical storytelling.

Celebrating 14 years of dance, the company continues to foster a supportive and inclusive environment for its members, encouraging them to share their unique stories and talents. “The troupe is more than just a dance group; it is a family that nurtures creativity, passion, and lifelong connections,” Valodia said.
Dance genres
The Bollywood Times marks Taare’s 12th dance production and its fifth collaboration with the Suidoosterfees, one of South Africa’s leading arts festivals that celebrates diverse theatre, music, and dance while showcasing both emerging and established artists.
