GQEBERHA – Motherwell SAPS swiftly foiled a truck hijacking and arrested two suspects after receiving a complaint and subsequently recovering the stolen vehicle yesterday, 23 April.

According to SAPS spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, it is alleged that the owner alerted police after his truck was hijacked in the Zwide/KwaZakhele area, providing crucial information that assisted members in tracing the vehicle.

“At about 12:00, members of Motherwell Crime Prevention followed up on the information and successfully recovered the truck in NU12, Motherwell,” she said.

She added that further tracking information led police to a farm along Addo Road, where two suspects were found burning items. “The suspects could not give a satisfactory explanation for documents in their possession believed to be linked to the hijacked truck,” she said.

Janse Van Rensburg added that a search of the suspects resulted in the discovery of “five and a half Mandrax tablets, one R1 live round, one 9mm live round, and eighteen 9mm spent cartridges.”

“The suspects are expected to appear in the Motherwell Magistrate’s Court soon,” she said.

Acting Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Brigadier Loyiso Ngalo, commended the members for their swift response and effective follow-up, which led to the recovery of the vehicle and arrests.

“Police investigations are ongoing, and more charges may be added,” Janse Van Rensburg concluded.
