Toulouse vs Troyes match moved to Sunday amid France unrest

The French Football League (LFP) confirmed on Wednesday that authorities have moved the Ligue 1 match between Toulouse and Troyes from Saturday to Sunday as France battles widespread civil unrest.

Local authorities in southwest France requested the postponement to free up security forces dealing with violent protests that have rocked the country over the past week.

The match will now kick off at 17:15 local time on Sunday instead of its original Saturday slot. Officials say the game itself does not pose a high security risk, but the large crowd requires substantial police and security personnel.

Toulouse’s rugby club will also host Perpignan in a Top 14 match on Saturday, placing additional strain on local security resources.

The LFP moved another fixture on Tuesday when it rescheduled the Ligue 2 match between Montpellier and Paris-based Red Star from Saturday to Monday.

France has faced some of its worst urban violence in years since protests over rising living costs turned violent last Saturday. Authorities have imposed partial curfews in Paris, Toulouse and several other cities to prevent further unrest.

Paris Saint-Germain played Barcelona at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday under heavy security. The same venue will host PSG’s Ligue 1 clash with Lyon on Sunday evening.

The Haute-Garonne prefecture, which oversees public services and security in the Toulouse region, approved the fixture change.
