Police have launched a manhunt after three managers were shot dead at a Boxer Superstore in eShowe.

ESHOWE – A former employee allegedly shot and killed three female managers at a Boxer Superstore in eShowe, KwaZulu-Natal, on Saturday following an internal disciplinary hearing.

Police confirmed the victims were declared dead at the scene after a man produced a firearm and opened fire inside the store.

The victims have been identified as the store manager, bakery manager and administration manager. One victim has been named as Thandiwe Chili (54).

According to police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda, the suspect attended a disciplinary hearing at the store before the shooting took place.

Media reports suggest the three women were shot inside an office during or after the disciplinary meeting. The suspect remains at large and police have launched a manhunt.

Employment and Labour Minister Nomakhosazana Meth condemned the incident on Thursday, calling on law enforcement to ensure justice is served for the victims and their families.

“This incident happened no less than five days after World Mental Health Day on 10 October. We extend our deepest sorrow and heartfelt condolences to the families, loved ones and all colleagues of the victims during this devastating time,” Meth said.

The minister said no person should fear for their life or personal safety while carrying out their duties in the workplace.

Meth urged employers to strengthen employee wellness programmes to ensure workers have access to adequate mental health support.

The Department of Employment and Labour has encouraged ongoing dialogue between management, labour representatives and employees to foster positive workplace relationships and resolve grievances constructively.

Meanwhile, Meth appealed to the public to refrain from circulating graphic CCTV footage of the incident and to respect the privacy and grief of the affected families.

Boxer confirmed the shooting in a statement and said it was cooperating with police and other authorities. The company described the deaths as a “horrific act of violence”.

The retailer said its teams observed a moment of remembrance for the three employees, adding that the victims “will not be forgotten”.

Police have appealed to anyone with information to contact eShowe police on 035 473 4211 or 082 557 6033, or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
