CAPE TOWN – Three suspects have been arrested following a shootout at the Vlei Informal Settlement in Athlone on Saturday.
Constable Ndakhe Gwala, Western Cape police spokesperson, said the trio were arrested by members of the Flying Squad following the shootout. Police responded to reports of a shooting in the area and, upon their arrival, gathered information which led them to an address where they found the three suspects.
Two firearms and 73 rounds of ammunition were seized, police said.
The suspects, aged between 17 and 49, will appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Monday 11 May.
Narcotics
In an unrelated incident, police arrested a 55-year-old man for possession of drugs.
Members of Operation Lockdown executed a search warrant in 7th Street, Firgrove, Macassar, during which they recovered 710 Mandrax tablets believed to be worth R42 600. An undisclosed amount of cash was also seized.
The suspect will appear in the Somerset West Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
