The long-awaited Book Bonanza at Eseltjiesrus Donkey Sanctuary near McGregor was due to start last Thursday, but literally got rained out.
However, gale-force winds on Tuesday night totally destroyed the marquee tent set up for the event.
Quick reaction led to a replacement tent being secured and erected, and with the aid of volunteers the massive job of displaying the thousands of books was finished in the nick of time.
But then came the Boland floods, and the bridge over the Breede River was closed as were all other access routes to McGregor.
So in spite of the lovely sunny weather on Friday, hardly any visitors could reach the donkeys.
There is some good news, though; the very popular Book Bonanza will still run this coming weekend from Thursday 22 to Sunday 25 June, from 10:00 to 16:00.

The donkeys will welcome you!
