The Swartland Municipality continued its journey for excellence at the recently held Western Cape Government Service Excellence Awards for 2026.

Two municipal projects won gold.

In a statement released on 19 October, the municipality explained that these two projects are especially important to them as they demonstrate their commitment to efficient service delivery as well as their deep care and compassion for residents.

The Ease of Doing Business / Red Tape Reduction project award recognises the municipality’s ongoing efforts to make it easier to invest, develop, and do business in Swartland.

“Through improved administrative processes, digital solutions, streamlined development applications, and a strong focus on customer service, the Development Management team has worked to reduce unnecessary delays and create a more efficient, investor-friendly environment. The programme demonstrates that municipalities can actively support economic development by removing administrative barriers while maintaining legislative compliance.”

The award for Best Municipal Project in a Small Municipality went to the Dahlia Centre. The Dahlia Centre is part of the municipality’s community development initiatives, particularly its work in addressing gender-based violence.

The Centre represents a commitment to supporting vulnerable residents, creating awareness, strengthening partnerships, and providing access to assistance for victims of gender-based violence. The Centre has established a permanent and sustainable presence in the community, making training, education, and assistance available for victims of gender-based violence.

“This has demonstrated the municipality’s commitment to address violence towards women and children in a sustainable manner every day of the year. The Centre has also served as a recognised training space for students studying social work under the experienced hand of our social development staff.

“These two awards recognise very different but equally important aspects of municipal service delivery: creating opportunities for economic growth and protecting the most vulnerable members of our communities.

“These achievements are not possible without the dedication and hard work of committed teams and officials. As a local government we depend on the excellence and dedication of our staff, and we are grateful for the recognition they receive from external moderators.

“The awards reaffirm our commitment to continuous improvement, innovation, accountability, and putting our communities first.”
