Not so long ago five women from Pretoria had the country abuzz in Die Real Housewives van Pretoria. Now it’s time for the picturesque Cape with Die Real Housewives van die Wynlande.
Six Boland women will open their houses, hearts and lives to viewers. From former beauty queens, entrepreneurs with bright ideas to a fitness model with a lust for life, a medical doctor who moved from trauma to aesthetics, a singer who exchanged the microphone for the corporate life to a woman that is married to the head of one of the oldest South African companies. Curious viewers will have to wait until Friday 31 March when these glamorous women will be revealed in all their glory.
Die Real Housewives van die Wynlande was filmed in and around Franschhoek, Paarl, Stellenbosch and Somerset West. According to Barrie Kelly of NBC Universal, the American entertainment company that owns the Housewives franchise, the programme’s setting is in one of the most gorgeous locations of any of them.
“The Cape Winelands ‘set’ is incredible,” he said, “and I love how the opening titles showcase this.
“The natural scenery of the beautiful towns is truly one of the main characters of the series,” says its director, Pascual Wakefield.
“Viewers will definitely relate to every woman, sit on the edge of their seats when things get serious and be emotionally moved at times.”
“It was a privilege to shoot this series in one of the most photogenic regions in our country,” says Lindi Lucouw from Red Pepper, the production company.
“Our six colourful women have strong opinions and will definitely get the country talking. Viewers can expect drama, emotion and punchy humour – very tongue in cheek.
The franchise started in March 2006 in the US with The Real Housewives of Orange County. Eleven US series and 21 international ones have been produced, including Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town, aired on MultiChoice platforms. The latest starts Thursday 20 April at 20:00 on kykNET, DStv 144.
