The annual Pink Derby Day has become one of the most meaningful fixtures on the St Stithians College calendar. It reminds us that sport is about far more than wins and losses. It is about community, awareness, and impact.
What began in 2008 as a heartfelt initiative by St John’s College student Luke Kuttschreuter, in memory of his mother and in support of cancer awareness, has grown into a powerful tradition. By 2016, this spirit evolved into the Pink Derby as we know it today. St Stithians College and St John’s College are uniting in their historic rivalry to support #PinkDrive. It is a vital work in promoting early detection and supporting those affected by cancer.
More than a sporting fixture
Over the years, Pink Derby Day has become far more than a sporting fixture. It is a day where players, coaches, families, alumni, and supporters stand side by side in support of something bigger than themselves. Whether through merchandise sales, the Wall of Hope, donations, or quiet moments of remembrance, the day honours survivors, remembers loved ones, and spreads awareness.
This year’s Pink Derby captured that spirit perfectly, enriched by the inclusion of the Prep 1st Team fixture and a special Old Boys rugby match, connecting past and present in celebration of tradition and purpose.
On the hockey field, standout performances included hard-fought 1–0 victories by the U14A, U14C, and U16A teams, while the 1st XI thrilled with an exciting draw. Rugby brought unforgettable moments, with strong wins from the U14A, U14B, U15A, and U16A sides, and the 2nd XV capping off an unbeaten season with a 39–31 victory.
The moment of the day belonged to the First XV. Trailing 21–0 at halftime, they showed remarkable resilience to fight back and secure a dramatic 21–21 draw, embodying the courage and determination that define Pink Derby Day.
Yet beyond the scores, what truly stood out was the atmosphere: a sea of pink in the stands, heartfelt tributes, generous donations, and the respect shared between rivals. Pink Derby Day continues to show what happens when tradition, rivalry, and purpose unite, creating not just memorable sporting moments but a lasting impact on lives.

A sincere thank you to St John’s College for their warm hospitality in hosting this year’s Pink Derby, and to both communities for making it a powerful expression of unity, purpose, and hope. We look forward to welcoming #OneAndAll to the Pink Derby at St Stithians College in 2027.
