Pietermaritzburg – St Charles College celebrated a comfortable victory over a determined Glenwood High School side on Saturday, following a tightly contested opening half.

Defensive Foundations

Both teams applied strong defensive pressure early, restricting scoring opportunities. The Saints held a narrow lead through the first two periods, with Glenwood competing strongly to keep the contest finely balanced.

Tactical Brilliance

Defence remained the cornerstone of the Saints’ success. Their help‑man defence showcased rotation and support, forcing Glenwood into difficult shots. Quick outlet passes let St Charles push the tempo in transition and create scoring chances.

A decisive tactical switch in the third period — a box‑and‑one defence — neutralised Glenwood’s standout player, disrupting their rhythm and enabling the Saints to extend their advantage.

Captain’s Leadership

Special mention goes to St Charles College captain Kyle Carmichael, whose efficient 29‑point performance combined scoring prowess with leadership to guide his team to victory.

St Charles acknowledges Glenwood’s determination and the encouraging progress in their basketball programme and wishes them well for the remainder of the season.

Looking Ahead

Head Coach Mr Darren Holcomb praised the Saints’ strong team performance, noting the confidence gained as they prepare to face Northwood away this coming weekend.
