Gqeberha, St Andrew’s College proudly celebrates the outstanding achievement of Oliver (Oli) Hutton. He has been awarded the prestigious CEMA Honours Award for Community Engagement. This distinction recognises his extraordinary commitment to service, leadership, and meaningful community impact.

A Vision for Water Safety

Oli’s most significant contribution has been the establishment of the NSRI Survival Swimming Programme at College. Recognising the urgent need for water‑safety education in local communities, he researched the issue. He developed a proposal, and facilitated a pioneering partnership with the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI). St Andrew’s College also became the first school to partner with the NSRI in delivering survival swimming lessons to children from neighbouring schools. They are equipping young people with life‑saving skills.

Service Beyond Measure

Oli’s dedication also extends far beyond this initiative. He has volunteered as a medic with Gardmed Ambulance Services, contributed to the NSRI, Coastal Kindness, and the Vukani Soup Kitchen, and stepped forward during regional fires and floods. Whether organising supplies, raising funds, or mobilising others to help, he has consistently responded wherever there was need.

Leadership with Integrity

As Community Engagement Prefect, Oli has led by example, inspiring peers to serve and uniting people around shared goals. Despite accumulating more than 200 hours of service, he declined to have these hours formally recorded, maintaining that true service should never be pursued for accolades. His humility and integrity remain defining qualities.

A Lasting Legacy

Oliver Hutton’s compassion, initiative, and pursuit of meaningful change have left an indelible mark on St Andrew’s College and the wider community. His actions embody the spirit of service and leadership that the CEMA Honours Award seeks to uphold.

St Andrew’s College is proud to recognise Oliver Hutton as a most deserving recipient of the Honours Award for Community Engagement.
