BLOEMFONTEIN. Provincial Mathematics Competition. Three learners from Grey College recently distinguished themselves at the provincial Mathematics Competition. The Department of Education held the competition for Quintile 4 and 5 schools on 9 and 10 October.

Grade 10 learner Tim Chang, Grade 9 learner Josua Potgieter, and Grade 8 learner Ikem Nwafor were selected as finalists and competed against some of the province’s top young mathematicians. Their achievement in reaching the provincial finals reflects their hard work, dedication, and strong problem-solving skills.

Among the standout performances, Josua Potgieter achieved an excellent third place in the Grade 9 category, while Ikem Nwafor delivered an exceptional performance to secure first place in the Grade 8 category. These outstanding results highlight the learners’ academic excellence and their commitment to pursuing high standards in mathematics.

The Department of Education Mathematics Competition is an analytical reasoning and problem-solving competition that tests advanced mathematical thinking, analytical reasoning, and problem-solving skills. Reaching the provincial finals is an achievement in itself, making the performances of Tim, Josua, and Ikem particularly commendable.
