Parel Vallei High School’s, Grade 10 Physical Sciences learners participated in the Stellenbosch Regional Eskom Expo for Young Scientists. Following an internal school expo earlier this year, ten learners advanced to the regional stage, where their innovative projects earned widespread recognition.
Award Highlights
Bronze Awards were presented to Helen Denner (Chemistry) and the team of Nicola Roux and Christine Toogood (Medical Sciences).
Silver Awards went to Aiden Olivier (Physics), twin brothers Johan and Kobus van Staden (Engineering), and Emma Hobbs (Animal Sciences).
Gold Awards in the Medical Sciences category were awarded to Carolien Jackson, as well as the team of Ami Le Roux and Aiden Burger.
Special Recognition
In addition, Emma Hobbs received a Special Prize – an online marine biology course sponsored by the Two Oceans Aquarium – in recognition of her exceptional project.
“These results highlight the dedication, creativity, and scientific curiosity of our learners,” said the school’s spokesperson. “We are immensely proud of their achievements, which reflect Parel Vallei’s commitment to fostering academic excellence and innovation.”
