Kingswood College proudly celebrates the remarkable achievement of Megan Sheard, captain of the 1st team water polo. She has been selected to represent South Africa at the World Aquatics U18 Women’s Championship. It takes place in Tenerife, Spain, from 16 to 23 August.
Her selection is a testament to years of dedication, perseverance, and hard work, reflecting both her personal commitment and the strength of Kingswood’s water polo programme, its outstanding coaches, and a culture of excellence.
Megan’s journey began in Grade 4 on a farm outside Cathcart, where she first discovered her love for the sport. Since then, she has represented Eastern Province from Grade 7 and previously earned South African colours. She then competed in Türkiye with the U16 national team.
Now, being chosen for the U18 World Championship marks her greatest sporting milestone to date. Megan credits her success to resilience and determination: “I never gave up when things became difficult… I always try to push myself to become better after every practice and training session.”
Looking ahead, she hopes to gain invaluable international experience and learn from the world’s best players. A natural leader, Megan also captains Kingswood’s 1st hockey team, and her presence will undoubtedly be a great asset to the South African squad.
