BLOEMFONTEIN – Grey College Secondary has announced the appointment of Mr Jurie Geldenhuys as its new principal from 1 January 2027.
Geldenhuys will become the school’s 15th principal since its founding in 1855. He succeeds Mr Braam van Wyk, who will retire at the end of 2026.
He has served as principal of Grey College Primary since 2015. According to the Grey College School Governing Body, Mr Geldenhuys’s appointment will help ensure continuity and strong leadership as the school moves into a new chapter.
School Governing Body chairperson Jan Harm Greyling said sustainable leadership and continuity are vital to preserving Grey’s rich heritage while preparing for the future. He added that Geldenhuys brings extensive knowledge of both the Grey community and the broader education sector.
The governing body also expressed satisfaction with the transparency of the appointment process. It said the school’s ethos and values remained central throughout the process.
Geldenhuys began his education career in 1992. Over more than three decades, he has served at a number of schools across South Africa. More than 20 of those years were spent in principal positions.
In addition to his work in education, he has achieved success in both school sport and cultural activities. This broad experience aligns with Grey College’s commitment to developing well-rounded young men who can make meaningful contributions to society.
Geldenhuys described his appointment as the culmination of a full-circle journey. After many years at Grey College Primary, he now looks forward to guiding learners at the secondary school level.
He said his goal is to build on the school’s proud traditions while embracing the opportunities and challenges of the future.
The process to appoint a new principal for Grey College Primary is expected to begin shortly.
