This past weekend, Grey College’s marimba ensemble, The Knights, proudly represented the College at the National Marimba Competition hosted by Michaelhouse in KwaZulu-Natal. They competed across five categories.
Grey College is exceptionally proud of Angelo Nieman, who was honoured as Best Piccolo Player – a remarkable achievement that reflects his dedication and talent. Angelo Nieman’s recognition is a standout achievement. His precision, musicality, and expressive tone captured the judges’ attention, setting him apart in a field of highly talented performers. Angelo’s award not only celebrates his individual artistry but also elevates the reputation of Grey College’s marimba program.
The competition upheld exceptionally high standards, with strong performances from schools nationwide. Our Knights rose to the occasion, delivering performances that were not only musically impressive but also admired for their outstanding behaviour, professionalism, and engaging stage presence. The audience’s warm reception was a testament to the group’s artistry and spirit.
Congratulations to every member of The Knights for representing Grey College with excellence and pride. We are already looking forward to building on this success at next year’s competition. The band is trained by Ms Margie Anderson.
