EASTERN CAPE – The police in KwaZakhele, Gqeberha are investigating two separate and unrelated double murders that occurred over the weekend.

Couple shot in Mango Street

In the first incident, on Friday, 18 September at approximately 19:30, police responded to a shooting in Mango Street, France, KwaZakhele. A 47-year-old man was shot while travelling in a vehicle with his 45-year-old wife and their eight-year-old child.

“On arrival, police found the man deceased in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. His wife, who had sustained serious injuries, was transported to Livingstone Hospital in a private vehicle, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The child was not injured,” SAPS Eastern Cape said in a statement.

The motive for the shooting, as well as the identity of the suspect or suspects, remain unknown at this stage. Investigation is under way.

Two found dead in Nqantosi shack

In a second, unrelated incident, on Saturday, 19 September at approximately 10:05, police responded to a complaint in Salamntu Street, Nqantosi. A community member told officers that gunshots had been heard in the area at around 01:00.

When community members entered a shack later that morning, they discovered the bodies of a 29-year-old man and a woman. The man was found lying on the floor, while the woman was found seated on a couch. Both had sustained gunshot wounds to the head and were declared dead at the scene.

The motive for the murders and the identity of the suspect or suspects are not yet known and remain under investigation.

Police appeal for information

SAPS said the names of the deceased will be released once they have been formally identified.
