BLOEMFONTEIN – The SAPS in Bloemfontein has launched a full-scale search for Vuyani Ngcamani in following the latest alleged brutal knife attack on his ex-girlfriend and her mother. Sergeant Sinah Mpakane, provincial police spokesperson, confirmed that both victims were hospitalised with severe stab wounds following attack at their residence in Turflaagte in the early hours of Monday, 20 July.

She said the suspect was also being sought in connection with three pending cases — all involving the same former partner. They include two cases of intimidation with a knife and one of the theft of a Corsa Lite motor vehicle opened in May. The vehicle was recovered abandoned in Fauna suburb.

Mpakane said police had secured a warrant of arrest for Ngcamani and appealed to the public for assistance in tracing the suspect.

“The latest knife attack on 20 July at approximately 3:00am, the suspect broke the window while the complainant and her mother were sleeping. The mother said she heard her daughter screaming from her bedroom. Upon investigating, she found Ngcamani armed with a knife, and her daughter had been stabbed multiple times,” said Mpakane, adding that the suspect allegedly attacked the mother when she tried to intervene.

“She was also stabbed in the hands and thereafter the suspect took a cellphone belonging to the mother of his former girlfriend and fled the house,” said Mpakane.
She said charges against Ngcamani include housebreaking with the intent to commit a crime, attempted murder, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH), and house robbery.

Mpakane said according to a preliminary investigation, the suspect’s horrific attack on his former lover came after the complainant opened a gender-based violence (GBV) case against him at the Kopanong police station in Turflaagte. “The victim reported that Ngcamani accused her of ruining his life by opening a GBV case, for which he was sentenced to seven months’ imprisonment,” Mpakane explained.
