ZAKHELE Football Association (ZAFA) acting president, Thando Pinoki Koboka, warned the teams that do not adhere to national lockdown rules.

This warning came after ZAFA teams and those from New Brighton were found to be playing tournaments.

According to Koboka, teams are ignorant of the law, as they are playing tournaments and conducting training and practice sessions while the lockdown regulations and rules are still in force.

Koboka said, “We sent SAFA letters to ZAFA clubs on the WhatsApp group, but I was called to Wolfson Stadium, where I saw teams playing.

“When someone phoned me, I called the police because the teams were breaking the lockdown rules and regulations and the teams ran away.

“The following day teams played games at Wolfson Stadium again. I noticed some of the teams were from New Brighton.”

Koboka revealed that the games were being played in different venues like Jali Street Park, Boqo Street and Nobatana Street Park.

Koboka said, “I took photos of the teams and I reprimanded them but they showed no respect by not stopping what they are doing.

“In the open field near the Daku Road robots, it is business as usual in the afternoons. I went there to stop them but they ignored me.

“I have discovered that junior and senior coaches, fans and players of these teams put the lives of other people at risk. Coronavirus kills and at this time, no practices and sports gatherings are allowed.

“We are doing all in our power to make sure that teams adhere to lockdown rules. Their ignorance and disrespect will have a bad impact on their lives and those of others.”
