IT’S time for five of the cooks from the communities in Nelson Mandela Bay to become world famous.
Port Elizabeth Express, UD Express, the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality and the Alliance Francaise want you to give us a recipe and become one of our Bay Chefs for 2019.
Local Masterchef finalist, Khaya Silingile, will be the head judge for the final cook-off.
It’s so easy to be a finalist and win exciting prizes, which include shopping vouchers and an exclusive gourmet tour of the Garden Route.
All you have to do is send us your favourite recipe that you believe represents the cooking character of Nelson Mandela Bay and is different to meals that you can eat in the rest of South Africa.
The food could be something very different from other dishes or it could be a common dish that is given a distinctive taste by using a herb or other ingredient from somewhere in our metro.
We want tourists to enjoy your dish and say that it is different to anything they have tasted in South Africa and that they have enjoyed it most of all!
You can help us to make Nelson Mandela Bay unique and exciting in what we offer to our tourists.
We want our visitors to talk to their friends about your food on social media.
Imagine people from all over the world enjoying your dish and taking their recipe home with them to their country.

From this coming Friday the entry form can also be downloaded from the PE Express and UD Express facebook pages.
All you have to do is write down the recipe and a few words about the special time that you cooked it.
Was it from that special family picnic at Schoenies or was it for your street committee member in the ‘80s? Maybe it was from the night that you took the best “selfie” of your life or from after the church memorial service for your favourite aunt.
Just write down a recipe that will make us proud and include an emotional memory from one of the times you cooked it.
Entries for the Bay Chefs must be in by July 25 and the five best entrants will cook off against each other on July 29.
The winner will be announced by Executive Mayor Mongameli Bobani at a proudly Nelson Mandela Bay function on July 30.
The Bay Chefs competition is supported by Coke, Spar, Greenacres Shopping Centre and Magnetic Storm.
