YOUNG Volcano LFC player, Lisakhanya Mkoto, is working very hard to reach her goal of becoming a professional soccer star.

Mkoto (17) is a Grade 12 learner at St Thomas High School and is one of highest rated players in the Motherwell NU 9 ladies’ side.

She is a wing who can play on the right or left side. Mkoto stated that in order to achieve her goal, she has to work very hard.

She said, “I am working very hard because that helps me to perform excellently in every game. I train very hard because I want to maintain my fitness at the highest levels.

“I listen to our coach, Mzuvukile Reggie Khesi, when he gives the team instructions. I fully believe that listening helps the player to perform better.

“I have high self-esteem and self-confidence (and am determined) to achieve my goal.”

Mkoto warned her fellow players to refrain from taking drugs and alcohol. She stated that drug abuse was jeopardising the future of the players.

She also revealed that sport alone was not enough for the players and she urged them to take education seriously. Mkoto thanked her coach, Khesi, for being her role model.

“(Until I joined Volcano LFC) I never played football in my life, but I was introduced to it by my coach.

“Our coach is our role model and he is also our parent. He dedicates his time to us and he sacrifices a lot for our team. We are not going to disappoint him but we are going to give (a good) account of ourselves for his sake,” said Mkoto.
