Allison Vogelstruis is a 21-year-old from Bloemendal in the Northern areas of Gqeberha. She believes participating in Toastmasters at her high school, Bethelsdorp Comprehensive High School, was preparation for the different stages she has been on and is still planning on being on.

“I decided to enter Miss Grand South Africa last December, because I love everything it stands for. My biggest goal is, and always was, to give back to my community and make a difference, even if it’s a very small one. Miss Grand SA is an organisation against all forms of war and violence against mankind, by promoting peace and harmony. I believe I can be a voice for the voiceless in our community; my project will start in the next month or so,” she said.

Another reason that inspired her to enter was Jeane van Dam who won Miss Grand SA in 2021, and went on to compete in the Miss Grand International pageant where she was placed fourth runner-up.

“She was very inspiring and relatable, as she is just as petite as I am and usually we ‘tiny’ girls get overlooked in pageants due to the stigma that only tall women should win these titles. After her reign I knew it was possible for me. I have a lot to look forward to as our very first workshop will be taking place in Gauteng mid-March, where I will be meeting all my 31 amazing and beautiful fellow contenders,” Vogelstruis added.

The finale will be held in June, but voting is already open to the public. Voting details can be found on Allison Vogelstruis’s Facebook and Instagram.

“The message I would love to leave with young girls and boys is to keep educating and empowering themselves, and to try and spread humanity and unity among others. Every day you get a chance to become the best version of yourself. I want them to know they can achieve whatever they put their mind to, through hard work and dedication, because that dream was planted in their heart for a reason,” the beauty queen concluded.
