LOCAL organisation, Face of the Bay, successfully hosted its inaugural Little Miss Face of the Bay pageant event on Women’s Day, August 9, at the Baywest Ball in Gqeberha.
At the event 23 young girls, dressed by Foschini, took to the stage alongside their mothers, celebrating the special bond between them and promoting a message of empowerment and confidence.
Brand ambassador and co-founder, Candice Heynes, expressed her delight with the success of the Little Miss pageant, which saw girls aged four to 12 taking part in an exciting competition at one of the Eastern Cape’s largest shopping centres.
“To add a unique touch to the pageant, which was well attended, the young girls walked the stage alongside their mothers as part of Women’s Month,” said Heynes.
Finally, after much deliberation among the four judges, Aftan Bailey, Shahnaz Williams, Tyla Redcliffe and Tebisa Ncube, she said that the participants won in three different age groups, 4-6 years, 7-9 years, and 9-12 years.
“We decided to create three age categories to remain fair, and provide a larger opportunity for the participants,” said Heynes.
The winners were Lichle Peters (4-6 years), Harmony Sauls (7-9 years), and Azaria De Bruyn (9-12 years).
As part of their initiative to give back to the community, Heynes said that Face of the Bay selects a deserving charity organisation to receive a monetary donation. This year, Forever Family Home in Walmer was chosen as the beneficiary, receiving a generous R3 000 cheque during the pageant event on August 9.
“Face of the Bay donates and gives back to the community in need. At every event a percentage of proceeds goes back to the community. At the Little Miss event, the mothers chose Forever Family Home as the deserving charity,” said Heynes.
She further thanked her supporters and those who sponsored the event, Baywest Mall, BayFM, Foschini, Gravity Indoor Trampoline, John Dory’s and Utility Stamp.
Looking ahead to her next project, she said she plans to host a two-day wellness and grooming workshop for learners at Alpha Primary School in September.
Heynes said the workshop, which forms part of Face of the Bay’s “changing the ordinary to extraordinary” initiative, will focus on confidence-boosting techniques.
“Face of the Bay’s objective is to help learners develop self-confidence and teach them the social protocols necessary to interact successfully with others. Learners will establish the right image with proper body posture and poise. They will also be able to enhance their first impression and visual effectiveness in the way that they look,” said Heynes. “The workshop is aimed at teaching them basic etiquette.”
She said that the workshop will also include food and drink for the learners.
Heynes extended an invitation to potential sponsors, expressing her gratitude for any contributions toward the upcoming wellness and grooming workshop.
