A woman (28) has been arrested on charges of murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Lungisa Xhwegwa (41) at his home on Cranwell Drive, Humewood Extension, on Saturday, December 21. According to reports, a man knocked on Xhwegwa’s door, asked for him by name, and then shot him at least four times.
According to police spokesperson Capt. Sandra Janse van Rensburg, the SAPS Nelson Mandela Bay Tracing Task Team arrested the woman on Friday, December 27, after following up on information received. She reported to SAPS Humewood for questioning.
In a previous media statement, the police asked the community’s assistance for leads following the murder. Xhwegwa and a niece were at approximately 13:15 busy in the kitchen of his home when someone knocked at the door.
“After they opened the door, the man asked for the deceased by name. The man called the deceased outside to talk to him, and once they were outside, the suspect drew a firearm and shot Xhwegwa in the chest. As he attempted to flee from the suspect, he was followed by the suspect who fired three more shots at him. Xhwegwa died on the scene,” said Capt. Janse van Rensburg.
The suspect will appear in the Gqeberha Magistrate Court on Monday, December 30, on charges of murder.
