THE Eastern Cape Motor Group will sponsor a brand-new Datsun Go vehicle prize, valued at R127 000, as a superb lucky draw incentive open to all participants in both the NMB SA 21.1km marathon and the 5km fun run.

The Nelson Mandela Bay Athletics South Africa 21.1km Championships, which incorporates the CAA Southern Region Championships, will set the pace with a racing prize purse and lucky draw prizes worth R850 000!

“The car is the highlight of our lucky draw, which means you don’t have to win one of the races to win it!” said Michael Mbambani, Eastern Province Athletics sponsorship liaison.

He said the car draw would bring the prize-giving ceremony to an exciting conclusion after the 21.1km cut-off at 10.30 on the Saturday.

Five finalists will be drawn to see who wins the car. Adidas will be sponsoring a R2 000 gift voucher for the four consolation prizes.

“There’s been a generous increase in prize money with the overall winner taking home R80 000,” said race director Alan Taylor.

“ASA has introduced a bonus incentive of R25 000 should a South African athlete finish first, boosting the winning purse to R105 000.”

All the finishers of both the 21.1km and 5km races will receive medals. The first 800 entries in the 21.1km and 500 entries in 5km will receive T-shirts.

Starting from Marine Drive at Pollock Beach, the runners will head towards Kings Beach, then turn and run through NMU, down Admiralty Road and head back to Kings Beach for the second loop.

Rolling road closures from 05:30 will ensure a safe run and minimum inconvenience for the public. The 21.1km road race starts at 07:00 and the 5km fun run starts at 09:00.

Enter online at www.entrytime.com or at local sports shops before July 24. Registration and late entries will take place at the Summerstrand Surf Lifesaving Club from 14:00 on Friday, July 27 and from 05:30 on race day.
