The body of a woman was found floating in a pool in Fairview this afternoon, Monday, April 4 and according to sources at the scene, the victim is Theresa de Villiers, wife of former Springbok coach, Peter de Villiers.

Police spokesperson, Capt. Sandra Janse van Rensburg, said that she herself cannot confirm that the victim is indeed Theresa de Villiers. However, sources at the scene have relayed this information.

“It is alleged that at approximately 12:00, the body of a 62-year-old woman was found in the swimming pool at a house in Redbud Street in Fairview,” Janse van Rensburg said.

“The deceased is from Paarl but was visiting family in Gqeberha. She was found in the pool by a family member. No foul play is suspected,” she added.

SAPS Walmer is investigating an inquest. The circumstances surrounding the drowning is under investigation.

Meanwhile, GOOD, the political party that recently introduced De Villiers as one of its councillors, took to Facebook to extend their condolences to his family.

“GOOD extends its most heartfelt condolences to Peter de Villiers, former SA rugby coach and GOOD councillor, on the passing of his beloved wife. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you during this difficult time. May strength, peace, love surround you as you and your family go through this difficult time,” the party said.

The passing of De Villiers’ wife comes less than three years after they lost their daughter, Odille Monk, to cancer.

Monk was 28-years-old when she passed away in December 2019.
