Molly Blackburn Secondary are rugby champions

SPORT Revolution ran the successful Glenryck Pilchards KwaNobuhle High Schools Rugby Tournament at Jabavu Stadium in KwaNobuhle on August 21 and 28.

According to Sport Revolution chairman, Bantwini Matika, the aim of running their programme was to revive township schools’ rugby.

“We are very pleased that the learners are very enthusiastic about rugby. They arrived in large numbers to support their schools from the first day to the last day. I am also delighted that the finals produced some fireworks. In essence, rugby was a winner,” said Matika.

Molly Blackburn Secondary hammered Phaphani Secondary 46–0 during their semi-final.

Solomon Mahlangu Secondary booked themselves a berth in the finals following their 24–5 triumph over Sisonke Secondary. In the losers’ finals, Phaphani Secondary claimed a hard-fought 10–7 win over Sisonke Secondary.

In the main game, Molly Blackburn Secondary were crowned the Glenryck Pilchards KwaNobuhle High School Rugby champions, following their hard-fought 3–0 victory over Solomon Mahlangu Secondary. Molly Blackburn received R5 000, a floating trophy and gold medals. Solomon Mahlangu went home with silver medals. Phaphani settled for bronze medals.

Sport Revolution officer Nobesuthu Maqula urged learners to take sport seriously.

“Sport instils discipline into the players and on its own it is a career. Furthermore, sport promotes a healthy living style,” said Maqula.

Tenneco top of Nelson Mandela Bay Industrial Football Association League log

AFTER 14 games played this season so far, Tenneco see themselves on top of the Nelson Mandela Bay Industrial Football Association League log table.

Tenneco have collected 43 points. They defeated Aspen 4–0 at Jubilee 1 Field on Sunday.

Aspen, who suffered back-to-back losses, have dropped to the third position on the log table. Kanu cruised to a 5–0 victory over CRH Africa in Jubilee 1 Field as well.

Benteler did not avail themselves to play against Forvia Port Elizabeth at Jubilee 2 Field. Forvia Port Elizabeth were awarded soft points.

Heineken Distell were outmatched by Dairy Group in their 3–1 defeat at Jubilee 2 Field.

The hosts, Shatterprufe Struandale, failed to honour their game against Eberspacher at the Struandale Grounds on Sunday.

Continental, who are in second position on the log table, registered a well-deserved 2–0 triumph over Shatterprufe Neave at the Struandale Grounds. Sasko claimed a close 2–1 victory from Fomoco Ford in their difficult game at the Shatterprufe Grounds.

The supporters of Coega Dairy saw their side wallop BKB 4–0 in their one-sided game at Dana 1 Field.

Dana supporters were overjoyed as their side thumbed Hi Tech Auto 9–3 during their game that looked like a practice session. Forvia Uitenhage earned a comprehensive 10–3 win over Adient PPC at Dana 1 Field on Sunday as well.

Young Ideas face Royal Bucks in Shining Stars Preseason tournament finals

MOTHERWELL NU 11 Stadium is expected to be filled to the rafters when Young Ideas FC face Royal Bucks in potentially one of the toughest Shining Stars Pre-season tournament finals ever next Saturday.

Ideas had a mammoth task after they eliminated Bay Eagles 5–4 on penalties after their goalless full-time quarter-final score at Motherwell NU 11 Stadium on Saturday. Stars secured a hard-fought 2–1 victory over AmaJuda FC during their quarter-final at Motherwell on Saturday as well.

In a tough quarter-final clash, Young Madrid FC succumbed 4–2 to Camper United after their game ended in a stalemate, while Royal Bucks sweated for their 1–0 victory over Motherwell School of Excellence in their quarter-final. Andile Benz Mtati headed home Bucks’ winning goal on the stroke of the second half.

It was neck-and-neck during the first semi-final in which Royal Bucks won 5–4 on penalties over Camper United, following their goalless fulltime score at Motherwell NU 11 Stadium on Sunday. Ideas managed to eliminate the hosts, Shining Stars, 2–1 during their semi-final at Motherwell NU 11 Stadium on Sunday as well. Ideas broke the ice after Nkosinathi Ziwa scored from the penalty spot.

Ideas left-wing, Athule Libazi, was pivotal to Stars’ defence and laid a perfect pass to Onele Dayimani who tapped the ball into the back of the net, to lead 2–0. Stars scored their consolation goal courtesy of Vuyolwethu Julian Dlabongo in the last minute. A lot is at stake when Ideas battle out with Bucks during the finals at Motherwell NU 11 Stadium next Saturday.
