Khipu Major Chiefs win Ginola Soccer Tournament

KHIPU Major Chiefs Sports Club lifted the Ginola Soccer Tournament trophy when they defeated the defending champions, Real Crusaders FC, 2–0 during the finals at Young Romans Grounds on Sunday.

Chiefs faced Greenbushes side, Futures FC, beating them 4–1 on penalties following a goalless draw in the semi-final. Crusaders advanced to the finals by defeating Zwide Pirates 5–1 on penalties after a full-time 1–1 score in their semi-final.

During the final, the first half ended in a goalless draw. Chiefs drew first blood in the second half when their seasoned left full-back, Simamkele Dudley Pefile, scored a goal.

Sithembile Teyise scored the last goal of the match in the 32nd minute, increasing Chiefs’ lead to 2–0.

In the masters’ final, Sparks collected silverware after they claimed a narrow 3–2 victory over Chathaza All Stars. In the u/15 finals, Major Chiefs registered an emphatic 3–1 triumph over Zwide Pirates.

Chiefs went home with a floating trophy, 23 tracksuits, 23 gold medals, and R10 000. Crusaders settled for silver medals, a new kit, and R5 000. The losing semi-finalists received R2 000 each.

In the masters’ section, Sparks scooped the first prize of R3 000, a floating trophy, and gold medals, while Chathaza All Stars settled for R1 000 and silver medals.

In the u/15 section, Chiefs received a new kit and gold medals, while Pirates received silver medals and bibs.

Tournament director Khuthala Kakancu thanked all the stakeholders involved to make the tournament successful.

“I express my gratitude to all the teams, coaches, match officials, and the sponsors who contributed immensely to the success of our tournament. Lastly, I would like to express our heartfelt thanks to PE Express for always publishing our tournament,” said Kakancu.

Masters: Player of the tournament: Malibongwe Sobikwa; Coach of the tournament: Madoda Killer Klaas (both from Sparks); Top goal scorer of the tournament: Ntsikelelo Norushu; Goalkeeper of the tournament: Ayanda Ngalo (both from Chathaza All Stars)

Seniors: Player of the tournament: Xabiso Soldaat (Futures FC); Top goal scorer of the tournament: Lwandiso Magaga; Goalkeeper of the tournament: Sive Gqezengele; Coach of the tournament: Nkululeko Mayinje (all from Khipu Major Chiefs)

Young Teenagers win PEEFA Mwalimu Youth Development Foundation u/17

YOUNG Teenagers were crowned the Port Elizabeth East Football Association (PEEFA) Mwalimu Development Foundation u/17 winners, following their 2–1 victory over Mwalimu All Stars FC at Veeplaas Turf Stadium on Sunday.

The tournament took place from Friday to Sunday. The 16 teams were divided into four groups, starting the tournament with a round-robin format and finishing in knockouts.

The two top teams in each group advanced to the quarter-finals.

In the semi-finals, Teenagers eliminated the Kariega side New City Stars 3–1, while Mwalimu All Stars booked themselves a place in the final after a 3–1 triumph over Amadamara FC.

In the finals, Teenagers (known as Amachina) secured a hard-fought 2–1 victory against All Stars.

Amachina went home with a floating trophy, a new kit, and gold medals. All Stars received silver medals.

MYDF tournament director Thembinkosi Josopu said the event was the right platform to nurture talent.

PEEFA president Luyanda Ncwadi expressed his gratitude to Josopu for helping organise the tournament.

“We as PEEFA, are very happy to partner with Josopu in running this tournament. This tournament has helped us to unite the community, and it has also helped to keep the youth away from doing crime,” said Ncwadi.
