In the other semi-final, KwaZakhele beat Loyiso 7–5. KwaZakhele’s points were due to their star eighth-man, Liyema Matutu, and flyhalf, Phumla Vena. Loyiso’s points were produced by their second centre, Siphosethu Mqikela.

In the closely contested losers’ final, Loyiso defeated Cowan 17–12. In the finals, Newell earned a commanding 30–0 victory over KwaZakhele.

Shining Stars FC and Dema Development FC are MOFA League champions

MOTHERWELL Football Association (MOFA) finally lowered their 2023/24 league season curtain, with Shining Stars and Dema Development being crowned premier and first division league champions at Motherwell NU 11 and NU 9 Stadiums respectively, on Sunday.

In their last game of the season, Shining Stars defeated Eleven Stars 2–0 at Motherwell NU 11 Stadium. Skipper Vuyolwethu Dlabongo scored the brace of points.

“We took one game at a time,” said Dlabongo when asked about their success. “We were united throughout the season. Our dream has become a reality because we aimed high. Our management, our coaches, Mfundo Mfura Mxokozeli and Mlungisi Lucky Sundu, played a tremendous role for the players.”

“As coaches, we told our boys to stay focused all the way. Too much talking does not help, but the game is won at the field of play. We stressed that they should refrain from abusing drugs.

“We highlighted that education was the key to success and sport was the only way to keep them safe in their community. We have been so patient and our mandate was to collect silverware. We told our players that league is a marathon. If we lose one game, then it was not the end of the world. It was not easy as the previous games had a telling effect on our players.”

Wells Estate side, Dema Development, won the MOFA First Division trophy. Bay Eagles had bad luck on their side as Dema demolished them 3–0 at Motherwell NU 9 Stadium on Sunday.
